Deborah Brunt's Speaking Notes
For the last 10 years, God has taken me where I did not want to go in order to show me things I desperately needed to see. He’s revealed much about himself, about myself and about us who live and move in Western church culture. In obedience to Christ, utterly dependent on his Spirit, speaking the truth in love, I tell what I’ve seen.
Here’s my assignment:
- Invite people to know Jesus Christ as LORDseeking first his kingdom and his righteousness, abiding in his Word, being filled with and walking by his Spirit.
- Investigate truthhelping people separate the precious (what is truly of God) from the worthless (what appears religious but produces the opposite of true godliness).
- Instigate bold livingchallenging people to follow Christ wherever he leads.
I delight in guiding groups in profound prayer, worship and spiritual warfare experiences. Whatever the venue, I’m committed to helping those present practice hearing from God and responding to him.
Two very different pictures may help show the calling on my life:
- Having served as a volunteer jail chaplain, I can attest: Truth frees. When I speak or write, telling what I’ve seen, people often recognize prisons in which they’ve been living, and discover keys to freedom hanging in clear view. For example, most “committed” U.S. Christians are exhausted, trapped in bondage to relentless activity. I too was driven by this cruel taskmaster. Now, I help people see what Jesus has said all along: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28). Truth is, if what we’re getting isn’t rest, where we’re coming isn’t to Jesus. Bringing to light truth that’s been hidden right under our noses opens gates and sets captives free.
- Having served as drum major of my high school marching band, I can attest: A drum major leads a band to go and do as the band director has instructed. Ephesians 4:11-13 says God has given the fivefold leadership gifts “to train Christians in skilled servant work, working within Christ's body, the church, until we're all moving rhythmically and easily with each other, efficient and graceful in response to God's Son, fully mature adults, fully developed within and without, fully alive like Christ.” When speaking or writing, I’m intent on leading all who will to march together through gates God is opening, in concert praising him.
Before agreeing to minister, I will ask:
- How desperate are the people to know and follow God?
- What do they need to seeof God and of themselvesin order to go where he’s going?
- What intercessors will engage in spiritual warfare in order to see God break through?
